Michelle Gibson Photo © Darren Carlson The Short North Alliance hired a new staff member in July. Michelle Gibson, 27, replaces Sylvia Totzke as the Business and Visitor Services Coordinator. Totzke worked for the SNA for ten years before moving to Portland, Oregon, in June. The position serves businesses and visitors of the Short North district, focusing on outreach and promotional management.
Gibson previously worked at JPMorgan Chase for four years as a correspondence associate and interned with the SNA as a part-time PR and marketing assistant 15 months before applying for the staff position. News profiles and features about the arts district posted on the SNA website were written by Gibson during her internship, giving her entree to the district’s offerings as well as the opportunity to meet local business owners, some of whom she will now be seeing more regularly. “One of the most enjoyable parts of this position,” she said, “is in fact developing relations with businesses and people.”
Gibson earned a bachelors degree in English Language and Literature from Ohio State University in 2010. Raised in Dublin, Ohio, she now lives in Clintonville with her boyfriend and their two Westies. Juggling a 60-hour work week with a full-time job and internship is something she has gratefully left behind. At the forefront now is her new position and, hopefully, more free time for socializing, playing the ukulele and piano, taking photos and traveling (all the fun stuff she enjoys!).© 2015 Short North Gazette, Columbus, Ohio.
