Faith Mission Benefit at Benevolence
December 2008 Issue

A benefit for Faith Mission was held on October 24 at Benevolence Cafe in the Short North. Participating also were Clintonville Community Market, Patty-cake Vegan Bakery, and Oatganic Natural Food Market. Roving cooks proffered trays full of goodies like vegan lasagna and vegan noodles with raw vegetables. The three stores had tables laden with chocolate and vegetables (CCM), cupcakes (Pattycake), and fruit and nut bars (Oatganic).
It was a dark and stormy night, so the warm soups (a Benevolence trademark) of tomato bisque and lima bean/mushroom made the weary and damp guest take heart. Snacks of veggies and hummus or cream cheese (the point was made that the cream cheese was the only non-vegan item that night) on the delicious Highland Bread (another Benevolence trademark) were also offered up to the assembled throng. Hot cider and cucumber water provided beverage fare.
Networking the crowd was Eric Brown, running for probate court judge. Theresa Colson spoke to many people about her jewelry (on sale that night) and Eriyah Flynn spoke about her group, Mercy For Animals. Rachel Mavis was signing people up as members of the Clintonville Community Market. Pattycake had just had a successful run at Junctionview Studios at their Agora event. Nadira Abdirahman and her daughter informed everyone of their newly opened store at 1644 N. High St. Unit F, next to Singing Dog Music (actually on Chittenden).
We are happy that Benevolence is continuing to serve the best of organic food and much-needed community service. – Christine Hayes© Photos by Darren Carlson
